Where
were you born?
I
was born in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, Brazil. So we call ourselves
"Mineiro." It's a charming academic city of about half
a million people, which is around 2.5 hours off the coast of Rio.
It's so green!!
Who
have you worked with?
Whoops... Maria Conchita Alonso, Tracy Polan, Naomi Campbell, Shalom Harlow, Danielle Pestova, Elliot Gould, Faye Dunaway, Susan St. James, Anne Archer, Sonia Braga, Mia Tyler, Vandela, Nadja Auerman and maybe you!!!
Any
television credits? Commercials? Magazines?
Yeah,
come to think of it. I've worked on Ricki Lake, Geraldo, Sally
Jesse Rafael, Jerry Springer, Maureen O'Boyle and with Deborah
Norville. I've also done some commercials for Pantane, Zantac
and Aveeno. My work has also appeared in such magazines as American
Baby, Cosmopolitan, Child, Detour and New York Black Book.
Where
did you get your training?
I
was formally trained for hair and makeup in Rio de Janeiro, but
my real training came from home. My mother was a professional
makeup artist in Brazil and did a lot of work on the many soap
operas in Latin America. I was always amazed at what she could
do with a palette. From the time I was five years old I would
go to work with her and when we came home my mother and sisters
would let me practice on dolls and then on them.
What
is beauty?
As
Coco Chanel once said, "What a science there is in being
well adorned, what a weapon in beauty, but what elegance there
is in understatement." Everyone needs their own look, the
tricky part is finding the right inspiration. When you find that...
then you've found beauty!!
What
are you passions?
Spontaneity...
Nature... The human touch!!!
What
do people know about Paulo? Do you have a nickname?
They
know that I will never WAX anybody's eyebrows!! They call me the
"Eyebrow Guru", the "Tweezer Guru", the "Eyebrow
Master", the "Eyebrow Contourist", it makes me
laugh sometimes, but I take it as a compliment. I always notice
eyes and eyebrows. They're expressive-showing passion, surprise,
sadness and happiness. We talk a lot with our eyes. It's the focal
point of the face. Brows can change the whole look... makeup looks
neater and the overall look is more polished.
What
do you like the best about being a makeup artist?
Knowing
that I am passing on some positive information and techniques
to my guests. Whether it's makeup or eyebrow shaping, I make sure
they get the knowledge they need that works for them.
What
do you love most about women?
A
woman's perception - it's frightening!! Too bad you can't bottle
it and sell it!!!
Best
beauty advice?
When
it comes to your face look for the best. Be knowledgeable and
specific about your needs. Ask questions and make sure you understand.
For once in your life wear a deep blue-red lipstick, besides making
your teeth whiter, they can give you a very romantic look.
How
would you describe your style?
Simple,
but versatile with a little drama!! It makes life fun.
We
know that you are a master in giving tips to your guests, can
you give us one last tip for the road?
Hey
why not!? I would like to say don't be afraid of natural oils
on your skin. They don't make you break out like some people think.
For example olive oil is a great moisturizer and wonderful for
a dry scalp. Keep a little bottle in your bathroom cabinet and
make sure you get the cold pressed ones, they are the purest ones
of all.
