Q.
How do I choose and apply foundation?
A.
Often times, the fashion predictors of street makeup blurt out
the news that "All skin will be porcelain" or "Foundations
will be on the shimmer side" or "Foundations are out
and tint moisterizers are in." This is misleading and an
unknowledgeable bit of advice for the general consumer.
Choosing
a proper foundation should not be a difficult task. Apply a
small patch on the neck below the chin line, if it is the correct
shade, the foundation should blend off and disappear. Keep in
mind that two shades are sometimes necessary especially if you
live in a city with distinct seasonal changes.
The
foundation is a base coat for all other colors and should be
applied very thinly and evenly. Apply carefully with one stroke
overlapping the other (in areas that need the most, nose, chin,
and apple area) to produce a smooth and even coloration.
The
more natural a foundation shade is to the skin color and undertone
for street makeup, the more attractive the final aspect of the
overall makeup will noramlly be.
Q.
Should I pluck or wax my eyebrows?
A.
Never wax!!
The skin around the eye is extremely sensitive and thin; therefore
plucking is safer for the skin and allows for more precision
work. Did you ever hear of anyone coming out with an Eyebrow
Wax Kit? I don't think so!! But you can buy an eyebrow kit that
includes a tweezer and besides that you can maintain your own
eyebrows at home if you pluck.
Q.
Is it correct to pluck the hair above the brows?
A.
Yes!! But,
this rule does not apply to everyone. Asian and African women
are born with naturally high brows. For these women it is worth
plucking the hairs above the eyebrow as this reduces the distance
between the brow and the eyelid. Making the arch lower and less
pronounced. Also, the space between the top eyelash line to
the lower eyebrow line is very large in this group, so you should
refrain from plucking the lower brow hairs otherwise the distance
here will be even greater and the arch too high.
On
the other hand caucasion and Latin women are totally opposite.
To remove the hairs above the eyebrow would bring the brow too
close to the eye and make the arch too low.
As
I always say, "The eyebrows are the picture frame of the
eyes" so to create a look that will suit each person you
must understand each person's individual genes.
